Young
Mr.Keeley
10/7/07
English

Rhetorical Analysis

As I was watching the LDS General Conference this weekend. President Gordon B. Hinckley using the spirit of the Lord gave a very wonderful talk. This talk was specifically given to the priesthood holders of the church. In this talk, he talked about how to control our anger and not to let it get out of hand.
As he spoke, he related a story of a young man that had pretty strong values. He then continued telling us that this young man began to get angry, his anger got so severe that it led to him doing some things that he eventually ended up regretting very much. This young man is now serving time in a state prison; this is all because he did some stuff while he was very angry.
This story affected me greatly, knowing that something as little as anger can make someone do something to get them put in prison makes me really want to control my anger. A state prison is one place that I will always want to avoid.
I play tennis and it can be a very frustrating sport to play. When things don’t go your way you have the potential to get very angry. I recall a specific time when I was playing someone that I should have beaten quite easily. On this particular day things were not going my way. I remember telling my self to not get too frustrated. I ended up winning the match, but I feel like it was due to the control of my anger. I believe that if I would have lost my anger, I would not have been able to focus and I would have lost that match.
In conclusion, this talk has greatly affected me. It made me put my life in prospective and makes me think if I am controlling my anger or not. President Gordon B. Hinckley used the spirit to give a great talk on anger. I feel that the priesthood of the church will take this talk to heart and be in more control of their anger.

My life

When asked to write about my life I really had no idea where to start. After I thought about it more I decided, well, I guess I should probably start at the beginning. I was born in Provo Utah, on July 7, 1989. My parent’s names are Craig and Pam Young. I have two older brothers and a little sister. My whole life I have gone by AJ, but my real name is Andrew Jay Young. My parent’s named me after both of my grandparents, which I feel is pretty cool. I was a very hard child to manage. My parent’s always tell me that they could never take their eyes off of me. If they did, I would find a way to get my self into mischief. I have been told many stories like ending up head first in the washer, drinking my moms cleaning fluid, dropping a whole carton of eggs, which are just a few. I have only broken one bone in my body. When I was five, I was riding my bike with my friend to his house, as we were riding I was turning and talking to him without realizing that there was a parked car right in front of me. I turned my head just in time to brace to minimize the damage, but I still ended up breaking my left collar bone. I can’t really remember much about it, except for that it hurt really bad and I couldn’t move my arm.
At a very young age I started playing many sports, I loved baseball, soccer, tennis, and swimming. Slowly as I got older I started dropping sports and focusing more intently on just a few sports. By the time I was fourteen I had a really hard decision in my life. At that point I played soccer and tennis nearly every day. It got very hard on my body so I had to decide to drop one of the sports, and focus completely on one sport. I thought about it very hard and decided that I could have a lot of opportunities in tennis, so I stopped playing soccer and devoted my time entirely to tennis. From that point on I trained really hard, and set a lot of goals for my self so I could possibly achieve great things with my tennis.
But, having the good parents I do, they stepped in and really made me realize that there was a little thing called school. I began to focus more on my school knowing that if I wanted to a major university for my tennis, I would also have to have good enough grades to be accepted by that university. Having to manage those two things in my life taught me a lot of great lessons. I had to learn great time management, how to work really hard, always stay positive, and never stop setting goals.
Because of my parents, and the decisions I have made in my life, I am where I am today. If it was not for them I would not be writing you this paper today or even know you. I credit my parent’s very much for the success I have had in my life, and I hope they continue to persuade me to make right decisions so I can continue that success in the upcoming years.
There is now way I could write all the things that have happened in my life in six hundred words, but I feel like these are a couple of the big steps I had to take in my life to get to where I am right now.
